8 Best Travel Apps to Download Before Going on a Trip for 2024
Best Travel Apps

I just spent six months traveling through foreign countries and could not have done it without these key Best Travel Apps. here’s my list of eight must-have Best Travel Apps for you to download for your next international trip.

1. Google Maps

Google Maps (Best Travel Apps) is probably the most essential app for any traveler not only can It helps you navigate a new city but and this is key. You can download entire map areas to access them offline. So even if you don’t have the internet. You can find your way around a foreign country with ease.

  • Additionally, you can use Google Maps to find places to eat drink and Shop in a new location with access to user reviews and ratings one feature that
  • I love is that you can go into Google Maps and take the location of your hotel any experiences
  • you’re going to do those restaurants you want to go eat at and save them into lists that you can access later.
  •  A pro tip is to do this before your trip I typically do it on the desktop you could do it on your phone as well and you build those lists.

Ahead of time so that way when you go to download your map you’ve already got access to your hotel and any of those other places that you’re trying to get to even if you don’t have access to the internet.

2. Google Translate

Another hugely important travel app is Google translate (Best Travel Apps). One of the great joys of international travel is being able to interact with locals in their language. I find that among Americans a lot of people are either stressing about the language barrier.

They just don’t even make an effort but I have found that Google translate could be an answer to both of these people’s problems Google Translates an indispensable tool for international Travelers. because it provides translation for over a hundred languages.

It’s really great for looking up simple survival phrases like Hello Goodbye please toilet beer. but it’s packed with some amazing and useful technology that goes Way Beyond just looking up a list of phrases. what’s great is you can input what you want translated in a variety of ways. so, typing you could type in the word in your language and it’ll spit out text in the language.

  • you want it translated to you could speak in your language and it’ll spit out text in the language.
  • you want to translate it to you could even listen to the pronunciation of that text to make sure.
  • you’re pronouncing it correctly you can even have it listen to a local speak in their language and translate it back to yours the best feature in my opinion is that.
  •  you can translate using your phone’s camera you can simply hover your camera over a menu or a sign or upload a photo
  •  it’ll translate into whatever language you want hugely cool and just like Google Maps you can download entire languages.

So that you have them offline do that before you leave it’s still hugely worth it to make a little bit of an effort to learn some of the language of the place that you’re going but Google Translate is a great way to fill in the gaps speaking of communication.

3. WhatsApp and Messenger

Travel app is actually two Universal messaging apps WhatsApp and messenger Universal messaging apps. Like WhatsApp and messenger are hugely important for international travel having one or both of these means. you can stay connected with people back home but that you can also communicate with locals in the place.

WhatsApp and Messenger

You’re headed these apps are free to use they don’t require a cell phone plan and in many places. you’re headed they’re actually going to be the preferred way to communicate. I almost just mentioned into WhatsApp here because it’s definitely the biggest one it’s got over 2 billion active users.

But it’s really just going to vary based on where you’re headed in some places messenger is the preferred way to do it. you probably have one or both of these but just make sure they’re downloaded to your phone and be prepared to potentially use these rather than text messaging.

4. Currency Converter Calculator

This simple app called currency converter calculator I would always just do currency conversions in my head. when I would travel and this really isn’t much of a problem. if you’re headed to a place that uses like the Euro let’s say.

If you’re in a place with a really difficult currency conversion looking at you Cambodia. you’re hopping around a lot it’s super important to have a handy currency conversion calculator the one I use is literally called currency converter calculator.

you can find it in Apple’s App Store there are some very similar versions for Android in the Google Play Store essentially you just choose your main currency. The currency you want to convert to and start typing it’s that easy I like it for that reason.

It’s free it’s no frills there is a paid version where you can get rid of the ads I think you pay like three dollars or something like that. But to be honest the ads have never been so bothersome I like that this is so simple that’s the reason that I’ve kept this one there are definitely more feature dense Alternatives out there but I just find it’s not necessary

5. Surf Shark VPN

Surf shark the next thing all International Travelers need is a good VPN. Which stands for virtual private network. If you don’t know. What a VPN is basically think of it as personal security for when you use the internet.

The main reason that Travelers need a VPN. Because when you travel most of the Wi-Fi connections that you will make are in places like cafes or airports.

They use public Wi-Fi hotspots which are not secure and oftentimes will leave your sensitive info vulnerable. A VPN allows you to browse those public networks using a secured connection. So other awesome benefits you can basically make it look like your computer is from any country.

You want which opens you up to all kinds of additional streaming content hello shows that used to be on Netflix in the USA. But aren’t any more and definitely are in Croatia this also makes it easy for you access any Financial accounts or sensitive accounts that would normally lock you out. If you were trying to access the site from another country because they think it looks fishy and the same goes for any geo-restricted websites.

The VPN we’ve used for over a year now is surf shark and one of the things that sets surf shark apart from other vpns is you can have it on unlimited devices. I have surf shark on both of our phones we also have it on both of our computers. If you had a tablet you could access it there and really we have it on all of our devices under just one surf shark account.

6. Airlines App

You’re flying downloading the app of whatever Airline. You’re flying has a lot of benefits but the most prominent of which is the ability to check in online one of my rules for a great trip is to stand in line as little as possible.

When you check in online using your Airlines app. You can simply download your mobile boarding pass walk in the door of the airport go straight to security. Then head to your gate having your Airlines app is also really handy for receiving updates. You’re going to receive real-time updates about changes that are happening to your itinerary things like delays.

I find this is really handy for when your gate changes. You’re not going to see a paper ticket do that some other key benefits of most airline apps is that you can manage.

your booking directly from the app so for example if you want to try and stand by on an earlier flight home you can manage it right through. The App instead of having to go to a gay or a customer service desk and talk to a person.

Finally one of the other newer cool features of airline apps is you can access. the content that would normally be available for in-flight entertainment.

This is really handy especially for any planes that don’t have screens just make sure that.

you download the app before your flight and you should be able to access the free content using the plane’s Wi-Fi number.

7. Lounge buddy

Lounge buddy allows you to search for lounges at airports. You will be visiting and even helps you decide. Which one might be the best to visit based on photos and reviews.

If you have travel rewards cards that get you lounge access. Or you’re a member of a network like priority pass.

You can also punch in those access methods and Lounge buddy will help show you what lounges. You already have access to they also make it. So you can pay a small fee to access various lounges and I’ve never used that feature personally.

But I could see how it would be very nice for someone traveling that maybe doesn’t have lounge access. I mostly use land buddy to search for lounges at airports.

8. Ride Sharing App

If they might be worth visiting finally don’t forget to download. The local version of uber Lyft grab or any other ride sharing app for the country. You’re visiting having this will make it easy for you to get around. And explore your new surroundings taxis are great public transportation is great I love all of it.

A ride sharing app is not always going to be your cheapest option. But it is going to be the most frictionless experience. This is even more true when you’re in a foreign country for starters. You’re going to be able to use the app in your language. Which is a big plus next you are going to have to hacker the price is the price.

It’s transparent parent you can even use this to comparison shop. If need be from a safety standpoint you know. Where you’re going and you have a map showing you.

If you’re getting there your ride is tracked in real time. You can even share your location with others now. I said local Rideshare app because Uber and Lyft aren’t available everywhere no ahead of time. Which ones are the apps to use where you’re headed Uber is available in a lot of places.
